Profile of the Directorate

The Directorate of Registration and Examinations was established on the 13th of August 2007 as Directorate of Examination by the then Vice Chancellor, Professor Tijjani Muhammad Bande (GCFR).  It was established as a result of concerns of the University Senate of the need to facilitate timely processing of examination results. The Directorate has a Director who work closely with relevant Departments and Units of the University and report directly to the Vice Chancellor on issues related to students’ registration and examinations. The pioneer Director of the Directorate was Late Prof Usman Abubakar (May his soul rest in peace) of the Department of Biological Sciences. Under his stewardship, the Directorate has recorded tremendous success in the conduct of Post-UTME examination and the processing of students results. This prompted the Senate of the University to expand the scope and mandate of the Directorate to include registration of new and returning students of the University. In this regard, the name was changed to the Directorate of Registration and Examinations. From inception to date, the Directorate has five Directors as follows:

Professor Abubakar Abdullahi is the current Director of the Directorate who was appointed in December 2023. He is a Professor of Government and Politics and has serves the University in various capacities including Chairman and/or Member of various University Committees, Examination Officer of the Department of Political Science, Faculty Examination Officer of Faculty of Social Sciences, Deputy Dean and Acting Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences among others.  To carry out its activities successfully, the Directorate leverage on I.T support staff from the University MIS unit, while administrative staff were posted to the Directorate by the University registrar for its smooth operation. The Directorate has been involved in the following activities:

  1. Processing of students results on behalf the University Senate
  2. Conducting of Senate Standing Committee on Examination meetings to consider and recommend results for the Senate approval
  3. Facilitating correction of results for students cleared for graduation
  4. Ensuring proper screening of all newly admitted students
  5. Arranging speedy confirmation of newly admitted students
  6. Facilitating conduct of registration for both fresh and returning students
  7. Presentation of summary of results to the Senate for award of Degrees
  8. Ensuring speedy creation of accurate personal accounts using the University ICT facilities
  9. Creating enabling environment to ease payments of all fees by both fresh and returning students

Registration of Students

One of the major objectives of the Directorate is to ensure hitch-free registration exercise and confirmation of students admitted into the University. The Directorate has in recent years introduced innovation and modified various I.T tools and components of registration exercise to be in line with the global best practices. Following this development, students of the University can access the University and initiate their registration process anywhere across the world. As part of I.T innovation in the university, the University Management has established an ICT centre where students are provided with free internate services to register and generate course and payment registration forms. This has greatly reduced difficulties being faced by students during registration exercises. Given this laudable development, the Directorate has in the 2022/2023 academic session registered and confirmed 4676 undergraduate students and 1233 Post-graduate students. The registration and confirmation of students for the 2023/2024 academic session for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is on-going along with that of the returning students. As the University grow, the University management has been supporting the Directorate to undertake I.T reforms to improve quality and standard of student registration and examination processing and safety.

Processing of Students Results

Acquisition of information and communication technology tools has gradually transformed every aspect of examination administration across high institutions of learning. It is in this regard that the Directorate has in 2011 successfully facilitates migration of undergraduate result processing from Student Academic Personal Information System (SAPIS) to Educational Enterprises Resource Personal System (EduERP).  The EduERp tool provide students with the opportunity to access and view their examination records from their comfort zones. It has also strengthened the university examination results platform, improve and ensure timely processing of students results. In addition, EduERP has made examination results analysis easy for all stakeholders in the University.  The University is continuously making efforts to improve its I.T facilities for the overall benefits of its staff and students. The table below provides data of the number of students who have graduated with their class of degrees in 2018/19, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions.
