UDUS Students Learn Solar System Design and Installation with TEA-LP Support

The Centre for Advanced Science Research and Analytical Services (CASRAS). successfully organized a 2-day hands-on training on Solar System Design and Installation for Year 1 and 2 M.Sc. Renewable Energy students, Department of Energy and Applied Chemistry. The workshop, sponsored by the Transforming Energy Access-Learning Partnership (TEA-LP), University of Cape Town, South Africa, took place on August 22nd and 23rd, 2025, at CASRAS Auditorium.
The training covered essential topics, including:
– PV Design Principles and Theory
– Safety and Maintenance
– Environmental Impact Assessment of Solar Projects
– Practical Installation Sessions

As part of the training, participants were given a facility-guided tour of the 2 MW UDUS Solar Project, where they gained insight into the university’s existing solar infrastructure. This exposure provided a practical perspective on large-scale solar installations. Through a combination of theoretical and hands-on sessions, participants gained valuable knowledge and skills in designing and installing solar systems.

The success of this workshop demonstrates the University’s commitment to providing cutting-edge training in renewable energy, facilitated by partnerships with organizations like TEA-LP. The Department of Energy and Applied Chemistry looks forward to building on this momentum, further empowering students to drive innovation in the field of renewable energy.
