Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu


Brief Biography

Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu is the Acting Head, Department of Mass Communication. He is a multi-award-wining media and communications expert. He who studied Mass Communication at BA, MA and PhD levels. He has almost a couple of decades of accumulated professional experience in university lecturing, journalism practice and public relations expertise at local, national and international settings. Dr. Gwandu was a university lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication in Bayero University, Kano for over nine years and subsequently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. Dr. Gwandu is the immutable past Public Relations Coordinator of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), in Vienna. He authored books journal articles, book chapters and contributed to editing of books and journals. He served as the Special Assistant to the Nigerian President on Media and Public Relations, Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (2019 to 2023). Dr. Gwandu's research interest included journalism and communication studies, political communication, media ethics, media and Islam among others.
