DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT IN BRIEF

Introduction

The Works and Services Department was established in 1988. It transformed to Physical Planning and Maintenance Department to reflect the planning and maintenance functions of the Department. The Department, in 2017 was further divided and renamed Physical Planning and Development, Estate and Municipal Services Departments and Procurement Unit- the Unit being directly under the Vice Chancellor`s Office.

The Physical Planning and Development (PP&D) Department is saddled with the responsibility of designing and supervising the construction of physical structures on the Main-campus, City campus and the portion earmarked for the University, at the Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital. In cases where Consultants are engaged to offer services, the PP&D Department vets submissions made by the Consultants to ensure strict compliance to standards:

Functions

  • Initiation of projects in consultation with the Vice Chancellor and relevant Departments.
  • Vetting of Consultants` designs for new projects in consultation with the Procurement Unit.
  • The Director, PP&D is a member of Procurement Planning Committee (PPC) & Tenders Board (TB).
  • After the award of contract for new projects, the PP&D carries out supervision of the projects from handing over of the site to completion.
  • Vetting of Consultant`s Valuation Certificate prior to payment, for work done.
  • The Department liaises with Project/Budget Monitoring Committees, in inspecting and assessing progress of work done, prior to payment.
  • Preparing Certificates of payment and recommend to VC accordingly.
  • Issuance of Certificates of Practical/Completion of newly completed projects.
  • Carrying out assessment of land compensation and resettlement of compensated farmers.
  • Coordinating and supervising of staff in the Department, to achieve set goals and objectives.

Carrying out any other assignment(s), as may be directed by the Vice Chancellor.

  • Construction and furnishing of Faculty of Management science.
  • Construction and furnishing of 250 seating capacity lecture theatre for Faculty of Sciences.
  • Construction and furnishing of 250 seating capacity lecture theatre for Faculty of Engineering.
  • Construction and furnishing of laboratories and workshops for Faculty of Engineering.
  • Construction and furnishing of workshops and Laboratories for Department of Geology.
  • Construction and furnishing of offices and Laboratories for Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • Construction of Department of Civil Engineering.
  • Construction of studio Building for Faculty of Engineering.
  • Construction of ICT Building for Faculty of Engineering.
  • Construction and furnishing of 250 seating capacity Lecture Theatre for Management Sciences.
  • Construction of Perimeter fence wall around the University main campus.
  • Construction of Medical students Hostel at UDUTH.
  • Construction and furnishing of Faculty of Computing Sciences.
  • Construction and furnishing of office Block for Faculty of Allied Health Science.
  • Construction and furnishing of office block for the Department of Geology.
  • Construction and furnishing of office block for faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies
