The Department of Biological Sciences is one of the four foundation Departments of the Faculty of Science that started operation in October 1977. The Department is composite in nature comprising three units running programmes in Botany and Zoology in 1977. In 1989, the programme in Microbiology was added to it. Following the introduction of minimum academic standard (MAC) in Nigerian Universities, the Biology programme started in 1992-93 session. To date, The Department is composed of 3 units (Biology, Botany and Zoology) following the upgrade of Microbiology to Department.
