The need to make basic education compulsory has been emphasized by all countries, including Nigeria. Primary education, which is seen as bedrock of basic education, requires highly level manpower who are specialists to manage the subsector effectively and efficiently. This is because no education can grow above the level of its teachers’ competence. Primary education is the most important level of education for every society. Serving as one of the earliest levels at which pupils acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes, its relevance for the educational development of the society cannot be overemphasized. Furthermore, given the rapid expansion of the primary education sub-sector, adequate mechanisms, including expanded opportunities for production of teachers and school administrators to man the sub-sector becomes imperative. Here lies the rationale for a Bachelor degree in primary education.
