SERC operates through specialized research and technical units to effectively deliver its mandate in renewable energy research, innovation, and national development. We conduct multidisciplinary research across major renewable energy fields to deliver practical and impactful solutions.
1. Solar Thermal Unit
Focuses on design, development, testing and deployment of solar thermal technologies such as solar water heaters, solar dryers, solar cookers, and thermal performance testing.
2. Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Unit
Responsible for PV system design and installation, mini-grids and off-grid systems, hybrid solar systems, and PV performance testing and optimization.
3. Small Hydro Power Unit
Engages in small hydropower system design, rural electrification applications, water-energy research solutions, and demonstration/pilot projects.
4. Wind Energy Unit
Handles wind resource assessment, wind turbine research and development, wind hybrid systems, and technical advisory services.
5. Meteorology Unit
Provides renewable energy data collection, weather and climate monitoring, data processing, and support for research, planning and system design.
6. Biomass / Bioenergy Unit
Works on biogas technology, biomass cook stoves, gasifiers and biofuel systems, biofertilizer and waste-to-energy conversion.
7. Energy Efficiency Unit
Responsible for energy audits, efficiency improvement strategies, conservation research, and energy performance assessment.
8. Energy Storage Unit
Focuses on battery storage technologies, performance evaluation and testing, storage integration, and research on advanced storage innovations.
Commercialisation & Extension
Handles technology deployment, product development and commercialization, community extension services, and innovation-driven enterprise support.
