JOINT PRESS RELEASE BY THE USMANU DANFODIYO UNIVERSITY SOKOTO, NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL RESEARCH, YABA AND NATIONAL VETERINARY RESEARCH INSTITUTE, VOM
COVID-19 pandemic has, no doubt, brought to fore the global inadequacies of health care infrastructure and human capacity to deal with health challenges globally. The third world and/or developing countries, including Nigeria, are worst hit with these inadequacies.
The global rush for COVID-19 vaccine has led to competition with dire consequences to countries like Nigeria. Nigeria used to be a hub for vaccine production against infectious diseases for humans and animals in the West African sub-region three decades away. However, this capacity is under serious threat due to economic downturn and unstable policies in the country.
In order to reverse this trend, the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), Sokoto, Nigeria, the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria and National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Vom, Jos, Nigeria have decided to collaborate in areas of vaccine research and development for infectious diseases.
To this end, a joint one day national symposium is being organized by the three institutions. The symposium is scheduled to take place virtually via the link https://zoom.us/j/97190019889?pwd=T2J1VENGTzBHa1VrZ3Qrc2pkK2dGQT09. (Meeting ID: 971 9001 9889; Passcode: 473989) on the 1st of February, 2021 from 10:00 am to 2:00pm.
