The University Library came into being in October, 1977, exactly the same year when classes for the various degree programmes were started in the university. The Abdullahi Fodiyo Library emerged from the scratch; having neither a purposeful physical structure, materials nor equipment.

THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
The Abdullahi Fodiyo Library Complex was established in October 1977. Presently, it is made up of the following branch libraries, which were created in order to provide effective services to the University community.
The Main Library (Abdullahi Fodiyo Library)
The main Library (Abdullahi Fodiyo Library) is located at the permanent site of the University. It caters for the needs of: Faculties of Arts and Islamic Studies. Agriculture, Science, Social Sciences and Administration. Management Sciences. Education and Extension Services. Centre for Islamic Studies and Centre for Hausa Studies.
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Library (ATB/ANNEX)
This provides extended reading and research facilities along with specialized collections of Arabic and Islamic Studies. Reference, Africana, and Research and Document collections.
The Law Library
It caters specifically for the Faculty of Law and other staff/students interested in consulting legal materials.
The Medical/Veterinary Science Library
This is located at the City Campus: and it serves the needs of the College of Health Science. Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, School of Medical Laboratory Sciences and Technology and the University Teaching Hospital.
The Centre for Islamic Studies (C.I.S) Library
This is also situated within the Medical Library, though it caters for the needs of the staff and students of the Centre for Islamic Studies. It mainly consists of Arabic/Islamic books, works of the Sokoto Jihadists and other research materials.
School of Matriculation Studies (SMS) Library
It is located at the Sahara Hostel. It is meant to serve the students of the School of Matriculation Studies.
Library Membership
The following are bonafide members of the University Library; and are eligible to register and also borrow books subject to the regulations enforced. Library membership is cancelled once a member ceases to fall into any of the categories listed:
- Members of the University Governing Council.
- Senior Staff (Academic/Research Staff, Senior Administrative and Technical Staff).
- Full-time students of the University.
- Research Students/visitors.
- The University Librarian may admit other persons on temporary basis.
Application should be made in writing to the University Librarian, stating the reason for which use of the Library is desired.
Registration Procedures/Requirements
Prospective students are advised to contact the reader services librarian for an up date on the details of registration. Registration of all library users is renewable at the beginning of every academic session.
