ABOUT ABDULLAHI FODIYO LIBRARY
The University Library came into being in October, 1977, exactly the same year when classes for the various degree programmes were started in the university. The Abdullahi Fodiyo Library emerged from the scratch; having neither a purposeful physical structure, materials nor equipment.
However, the Liberal acquisition policies adopted by the founding authorities of the university greatly facilitated the immediate setting up of the library with an initial collection of about 12,000 volumes of books and 200 journal titles at the temporary site.
The Library, though a temporary one, has a useable area of 1, 165m2 and the capacity to house about 75,000 volumes of books and 840 periodical titles and accommodate 242 readers at a time. Presently, has grown into a large complex system with branches in the two campuses of the university due mainly to the rapid expansion of staff and students population; exponential growth of the collection which now stands at about 200,000 volumes of books and 4,864 volumes of journal titles; diversity of services and increased in the number of staff.
